For many, it feels like everything has already been discovered, that every story exists in a search engine or on social media. But the real world still holds secrets, even in places studied for decades. U.S. conservationist Paul Rosolie, who has spent more than 20 years working in the Amazon, has captured images of a tribe that has never been filmed before.

No immunity to common illnesses

The discovery, kept under wraps for over a year, is only now being shared. Exact locations remain undisclosed to protect the tribe from outside contact and preserve their way of life. More importantly, exposure to outsiders could be deadly, as these indigenous people have no immunity to common diseases.

“We were standing there, completely silent, waiting, because at any moment an arrow could fly straight at your neck. Then you start hearing shouts, and the women grab their children and rush into the huts,” Rosolie said during an interview on the Lex Fridman podcast.

A visual record that could aid protection

This footage provides the first visual evidence of the tribe’s existence, behavior, and territory. It may also help strengthen legal and environmental efforts to prevent intrusion or exploitation of their habitat.

Rosolie is also known for his role in the documentary “Eaten Alive,” where he allowed a more than 23-foot green anaconda to start swallowing him as a dramatic statement against deforestation and habitat loss. While the scene sparked global controversy, his goal was to raise awareness of the urgent need to protect the Amazon and generate international conversation about the environmental crisis.
