Update:

The situation in the Middle East is becoming even more complicated. Iran, in response to the U.S. bombing this past weekend, has retaliated by attacking its main airbase in the Persian Gulf — Al Udeid in Qatar. The Iranian military launched ten ballistic missiles at the installation, from which the U.S. had withdrawn its personnel on June 17.

In the afternoon, several explosions were heard in the Qatari capital, Doha, following the closure of the country’s airspace. “The relevant Qatari authorities are temporarily suspending air traffic in the country’s airspace to ensure the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors,” announced the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Initial reports indicated that another missile might have been launched toward the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq. However, Iraqi security sources told Qatari TV channel Al Araby that no attack had been recorded. The Iranian state broadcaster, IRIB, confirmed that ‘Operation Basharat al-Fath’ against U.S. bases has begun. Al Udeid is the largest American military base in the Middle East, hosting CENTCOM’s air operations command and control center. In Iraq, air defense systems were activated at the Ain al-Asad base, and personnel were ordered to take shelter in bunkers.

Qatar reserves the right to respond

“In response to the U.S. attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it has launched a powerful missile attack against Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military base in West Asia. Future attacks could lead to the collapse of both American military infrastructure in the region and the Zionist regime,” Iran’s military confirmed.

According to Qatari sources, the attack was thwarted by their air defenses. However, Iran claims the base was destroyed. In any case, Qatar has condemned the attack, calling it a “blatant violation of the sovereignty and airspace of the State of Qatar, as well as of international law and the United Nations Charter.” The country also stated that “it reserves the right to respond directly, in proportion to the nature and magnitude” of the aggression.

Meanwhile, the White House is analyzing the offensive, according to officials from the presidential office speaking to local media. CNN reported that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Caine are closely monitoring the situation. President Trump is expected to convene a meeting in the Oval Office in the coming hours to determine the next steps.
