Is Kevin Spacey still acting? Does he have any upcoming movies?
While embattled actor Kevin Spacey has been dropped from ‘House of Cards’ among other projects, he will be appearing in a couple upcoming movies.
Kevin Spacey recently won a legal victory in the first alleged case of sexual assault leveled against him that has gone to court. A jury found the actor should not be held liable for allegedly sexually assaulting Anthony Rapp when he was a teenager. The ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ actor made the accusation against the A-list actor in 2017 and since then around a dozen more men have stepped forward with similar complaints. He faces another trial in the UK in June.
The resulting scandal caused Netflix to drop Spacey from ‘House of Cards’ and prompted a lawsuit resulting in the actor paying $31 million to the production company. It has also made the producers of other projects he was set to appear in do a rethink, most recently the makers of ‘1242: Gateway to the West’ announced he would no longer be leading the movie.
However, the controversary surrounding Spacey hasn’t scuttled all job opportunities for the actor. He will be appearing in a couple upcoming films, one due out later this year and another early next year.
What movies will Kevin Spacey be appearing in?
Expected to come out sometime before the end of 2022, Spacey will star in ‘The Man Who Drew God’. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Italian screenwriter and director Louis Nero said “In Italy, we don’t know details on everything, so we don’t speak about what we don’t know about. I cannot speak about these things. I only know that Kevin is a great actor. That was my concern, and no more than that.”
The film, set in the 1950s, is based on a true story about the rise and fall of a blind man named Emanuele who has the gift of making true-to-life portraits by hearing the sound of their voice.
Currently in post-production with a release date set for some time in January 2023 ‘Peter Five Eight’ has the House of Cards alum in the lead. The producers lamented the negative press around the actor as he was just returning to work but said “it’s also to be expected.”
Despite his pending trial in the UK they made their support for the actor known. “There are those who wish for him not to act, but they are outnumbered by fans worldwide who await an artist they have enjoyed for decades returning to the screen,” they told Variety.
“The production has no knowledge or comment on the various swirling allegations, and believe it’s a matter for the courts to determine validity if it exists. ‘Peter Five Eight’ is a film for fans who care more for the art than the scandal,” the producers added.
Spacey plays the role of Peter, a charismatic but mysterious man in black who shows up in a mountainside town, sent there on a mission at the behest of his shadowy boss.
