Is Zelle gone for good? This is how you can still use the service after the app shut down
Users of one of the most popular services for transferring money can no longer use its dedicated app. But Zelle says they can still use the service.

Users of Zelle should’ve received a notice last year informing them that it was going to stop allowing users to transfer money on its standalone app. The Zelle-branded app was launched in 2017 at the same time as the popular money transferring service. It was created so that consumers whose bank or credit union had not yet joined the network could still use the service.
However, nowadays more than 2,200 financial institutions are part of the network and only about 2% of transactions were taking place on Zelle’s standalone app. Thus, the company announced that it had decided to bin the feature, but users will still be able to use the app to stay informed about scams and fraud as well as find which banks and credit unions are part of the network.
How you can still use the Zelle service after the app was shut down
The vast majority of users already use Zelle’s services on their own financial institution’s website or app, which they will still be able to do. Prior to shutting down this feature on the app, which took place on Tuesday, the company had been encouraging its 151 million users that didn’t already make transfers that way, to do so by phasing out the service.
If you haven’t already signed up to use the app of your financial institution, you will have to do so in order to continue using Zelle’s services. If you are unaware of whether your bank or credit union offers Zelle through its mobile banking app, you can check the company’s enroll page or call your financial institution to find out.
