The former Minnesota governor lashes out after the fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis, pointing the finger at Republicans and Trump.
Jesse Ventura doesn’t hold back on the Trump Administration: “We have leadership now that has destroyed the Constitution”
Jesse Ventura generally doesn’t mince his words. Standing outside his old school in south Minneapolis, the former Minnesota governor delivered a blistering critique of the Donald Trump administration, arguing that recent immigration enforcement actions represent a fundamental break with constitutional law.
What is Jesse Ventura’s ICE stance?
Speaking to local reporters from Fox 9, Ventura tied his outrage to two flashpoint events: the fatal shooting of 37 year old Renee Nicole Good by a federal immigration officer, and a chaotic confrontation between agents and staff near Roosevelt High School, where students and teachers protested ICE activity during dismissal.
Ventura, a Vietnam War veteran and former Navy SEAL, contrasted his own service with that of President Donald Trump, accusing him of evading the draft while now projecting toughness from the Oval Office. The criticism went beyond personal history, though, with Ventura saying the wider issue is constitutional collapse.
“We have leadership now that has destroyed the Constitution,” he said, accusing Republicans of disregarding warrants, due process, and civilian limits on federal power. “Freedom is not arresting people without warrants.”
Ventura compares Trump’s America to Third World country
The former governor described scenes of heavily armed agents operating in city neighborhoods as something he recognizes from abroad. After spending 17 months in Southeast Asia, Ventura said he associates soldiers policing civilians with failed states, not democracies. “That’s how you know you’re in a Third World country,” he warned.
Ventura praised Roosevelt High students and staff for pushing back against federal agents, calling the protest a real world civics lesson. He also hinted that the moment has stirred his own political instincts, floating the idea of a second run for governor more than two decades after leaving office.
Despite his clear anger, as you can see and hear in the video above, Ventura voiced support for current state and city leaders, including Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who told ICE to “Get the f*** out of Minneapolis”. But his central message was unmistakable: when constitutional boundaries collapse, silence is complicity.
