José Hernández Poveda, longevity expert: “If you want to extend your years of life, these are the 5 things you must do”

To develop this process properly, the health professional emphasizes the importance of taking care of our mental health and avoiding stress.

Update:

Longevity is one of the greatest treasures a human being can achieve. However, it requires following a series of habits and routines whose ultimate goal is the care and maintenance of health. By doing so, we can not only extend our lifespan, but also enjoy that “extra time” in a pleasant, peaceful way and, above all, free from disease.

In this context, José Hernández Poveda, a longevity expert and social media educator, shared a video on TikTok in which he discusses “the five things you should do if you want to extend your lifespan.” The key question he addresses is: “What is the latest, most advanced approach to slowing aging and staying healthy?”

“Look, this is not so much about ideology as it is about mindset. We have five pillars of longevity: nutrition, sleep, physical activity, stress management and mental health, and ultra-early disease detection,” Poveda explains. He then adds, “These five things will give you 80 percent of the benefits you can achieve in terms of longevity.”

However, it is not as simple as it may seem. “What is the problem? There is so much information out there that people feel lost. They try to do everything and end up seeing no benefits,” he says. Using his patients as an example, Hernández Poveda describes his approach: “We measure data, and I can tell whether you are eating well, training properly, sleeping well, and whether your stress levels are appropriate.”

“Extending life is useless if it is miserable and unhappy”

My goal is always to measure, identify the problems, create a plan, and measure again. Otherwise, you do not know if it worked. You are basically relying on blind faith,” the social media educator continues.

In closing, Poveda delivers a final message, making it clear that no matter how much you extend your lifespan, it is of little value if stress follows you and your mental health is not in a good place: “I always tell my patients, there is no point in extending your life if it ends up being miserable and unhappy,” he concludes.
