José Manuel Felices, doctor: “Wear socks to sleep; it dilates blood vessels and lowers body temperature”
The healthcare professional shared a TikTok video in which he offers “three medical tricks” for sleeping better.
In the field of health, rest plays a fundamental role in the proper functioning of our bodies. Sleeping well brings numerous benefits, including strengthening the immune system, improving memory, helping regulate body weight, protecting heart health, and supporting emotional balance, among many others.
In this context, José Manuel Felices, a doctor and health educator on social media, posted a TikTok video in which he shares what he calls “three medical tricks for sleeping better” that, in his own words, “seem like witchcraft.”
“Here are three medical sleep tricks that seem like witchcraft, but they’re just pure physiology,” the doctor says at the beginning of the video.
“An insurance policy against insomnia”
“First, close your eyes and gently roll them upward three times. That mimics what our eyes do when we enter deep sleep, and it tricks the brain into shutting the system down,” he explains.
Next, the doctor emphasizes the importance of wearing socks to bed: “Warming your feet dilates your blood vessels, which helps lower your core body temperature, and your body needs to be cool in order to sleep,” he says.
“And now, my favorite one. This one won’t help you fall asleep that same night, but it’s an insurance policy against insomnia,” he adds.
He then offers a strategy for coping with a bad night’s sleep: “Think about the grade you would give the next day after sleeping so badly. It will probably be a seven or an eight, which is not all that different from a normal day.”
According to the doctor, this simple mental shift helps you “lose your fear of not sleeping.”
“Instead of staring at the clock and calculating how many hours you have left, you’ll start thinking that the next day probably won’t be nearly as bad as you imagine,” he concludes.
