Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes has released the name of the shooter responsible for the tragic incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. The suspect has been identified as 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, who went by the name Samantha.

Chief Barnes confirmed that three people, including the shooter, were killed in the incident. The other two fatalities were a teacher and a teenage student. Additionally, six people were injured, with two students in critical condition and four others, including three students and a teacher, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Chief Barnes stated that the shooter’s family is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack and are in the process of interviewing witnesses and obtaining search warrants.

How the events unfolded

The shooting occurred on Monday, December 16, 2024, at approximately 10:57 a.m. when a second-grade student called 911 to report the incident. Police arrived at the scene within four minutes, where they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

The shooting took place in a study hall classroom that included students from various grades. A handgun was recovered at the scene, and evidence suggests that Rupnow died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, although the official cause of death has yet to be confirmed by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Abundant Life Christian School, founded in 1978, is a private K-12 institution with approximately 390 students. The school does not have metal detectors but does employ other security measures, including cameras.
