Marshmallows instead of eggs for Easter? It’s the new trend and now you can get a dyeing kit for just $2

Many parents across the nation are looking for alternatives to dyeing eggs this Easter and even though wholesale prices for eggs may be starting to fall after months of skyrocketing, they’re still about 60% higher than a year ago.

With the Easter holidays in full flow, the crafting community are looking for resourceful, creative and cheaper alternatives to the standard raw materials.

Marshmallow as an alternative

Two alternatives have been mooted with a bag of marshmallows, food coloring or baby potatoes also offering an alternative.

Rachel Anderson of the social media account Created at Home, posted an Instagram about dyeing marshmallows for Easter.

“Since egg prices have gone up tremendously, I found a fun (and way cheaper) alternative!” Anderson wrote on her post, which has received over 50,000 likes.

“All you need is a package of jumbo marshmallows and food coloring. Mix the food coloring with cold water and place the marshmallow in it for only one to two seconds. I actually enjoyed dyeing marshmallows more than eggs.”

Walmart also have an alternative available with a ‘all-in-one’ kit available for just $1.99.

The Kraft Heinz-owned brand has released a kit complete with all you need: tongs, food coloring, fine-tipped decorating tools and, of course, a bag of “farm fresh” egg-sized marshmallows to use them on.
