America’s largest fast food chain is looking to get even bigger. McDonald’s announced that it plans to open 900 new restaurants across the nation by 2027 which will mean more job opportunities.

But those looking for work now, don’t have to wait. The Golden Arches also said that it wants to hire 375,000 new workers to serve more customers this summer.

McDonald’s offers a number of positions and salaries which vary depending on several factors, such as experience, location, and department. However, the average hourly wage is slightly above the federal minimum of $7.25.

According to information from the job portal Zippia, the average starting salary at McDonald’s is $17,000 per year or $8.17 per hour. On the other hand, the overall average salary is $25,163 per year or $12.10 per hour which is 0.6 times the average national salary of about $44,225 per year.

McDonald’s highest paying jobs

According to an analysis by Zippia, based on public government and company data along with information from thousands of job postings, these are the three highest-paying jobs at McDonald’s:

Shift manager

This is the highest paying job at McDonald’s with an average salary of $27,926 and an average hourly rate of $13.43.

Team leader

This position has an average salary of $26,420.

Shift Supervisor

According to Zippia’s analysis, shift supervisors have an average annual salary of $26,157.

The top ten highest paying jobs at McDonald’s are completed by:

  • Swing manager: $26,066
  • Crew trainer: $26,022
  • Customer service representative: $24,685
  • Floor supervisor: $24,607
  • Grill cook: $24,396
  • Food service worker: $24,296
  • Cashier $23,991

The lowest paying jobs at McDonald’s

On the other hand, according to CareerBliss, these are some of the lowest paying jobs in the company:

  • Dining room attendant: $12,000
  • Crew member: $16,000

It is important to mention that in addition to varying by department or type of position, salary can also vary by location, since McDonald’s, like many other companies, often adjusts its salary scales to take into account the differences in the cost of living in different states.

Additionally, some states have established minimum wages for all workers higher than the federal minimum or specific wages for fast food restaurant employees.

For example, in California a law was passed establishing a minimum wage of $20 per hour for fast food workers in restaurants with at least 60 locations throughout the country. The legislation came into force in April 2024.
