Meet the AI ‘Reborn Baby’: created from parents’ photos and too real to be true
Being told that you cannot have a baby can be a heartbreaking experience. However, a couple found an unconventional way to become parents using AI.

Alejandra and Jaime received terrible news, not only was she diagnosed with brain cancer but her doctor told them that it meant that she could never conceive children. The heartbreaking news sent her into severe depression, and she locked herself away in the house unable to bring herself to go outside ever for the simplest of errands.
As a therapeutical option to help Alejandra cope with her depression, her therapist recommended that they adopt. However, not in the way that one would first think. Instead, the doctor suggested that they adopt a ‘Reborn Baby’, a doll made with artificial intelligence.
Created from the parents’ photos, the AI ‘Reborn Baby’ is too real to be true
The couple explained on the set of Antena3’s ‘Y Ahora Sonsoles’ how their ‘Reborn Baby’ was created using photos of them when they were little. “We sent photos of when I was a baby and when he was a baby and they merged them,” said Alejandra.
The arrival of the reborn baby by courier gave Alejandra quite the shock when she saw what was inside the package. When asked which one of them their son looks like it was agreed that the reborn doll, which has helped them to form the family they always dreamed of, shares a likeness to both.

In order for the therapy to work, their doctor recommended that they take the responsibilities of caring for their reborn baby seriously and act as if the baby were real. That meant following the routines that all parents of newborns follow, getting up at regular intervals to feed their son and change his diaper.
They have since followed the doctor’s orders and set an alarm, which sounds like a crying baby, to go off every three hours. Their reborn baby has completely changed their lives bringing both Alejandra and Jaime much needed happiness. This can be seen in photos they shared of celebrations with their son and while on vacation.
Their choice hasn’t been without its detractors though. Alejandra shared that they have received their fair share of criticism for the decision to have a reborn baby. “They judge you and say you’re crazy and that you’re ridiculous,” said Alejandra.
Adopting a real baby was never an option for them
When asked if they have considered adopting real baby, Alejandra said that they had completely dismissed the idea. The main reason for her is that she herself was adopted and the question of who her real parents were was always very problematic for her. “I don’t even know where I come from,” she said.
On the other hand, she wanted to have a baby with her husband Jaime that had his DNA. This was important for her as he is 30 years her senior, and she is worried that he will pass before she does and she wants to be sure that she has a memory of him were that to happen.
