“Most intense” snow storm warning of the winter season: These are the states that will get hit
As new Arctic air enters the United States, NWS meteorologists warn about the “most intense” snow storm of the season.

Millions of residents of the United States are on alert ahead of the arrival of new waves of arctic air that will descend from the north of Canada to the center and east of the American Union during the next week, the National Meteorological Service (NWS) warned.
According to climate forecasts, the “most powerful” gusts will enter the center-north of the country starting Friday, January 17th, just before crossing a large part of the American territory during the weekend.
Following the trajectory, waves of Arctic air will enter from the Northern Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains. Subsequently, they will cross the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and the Mid West during Saturday night, to hit the coast Sunday.
Essentially, the first half of next week will be marked by frost and extreme cold.
“Some 80 million Americans will be below 0°F on Tuesday, when the extremely cold air of the Canadian and Siberian Arctic descends over the 48 continental states. The average low temperature at the national level will be around 6 °F.”, warns meteorologist Ryan Maue.
The extreme cold will open the way to “multiple possibilities of snow” in the center, in the east of the country, which will result in the “most intense” snow storm of the season.
According to the NWS, snow showers could be present in the Rocky Mountains and northern riverbanks at the end of next week, while several southern states could be covered in a dense layer of snow from Wednesday.“
The snow, which was falling over the eastern part of the Ohio Valley, central Great Lakes and western slopes of the Appalachians to start the day on Thursday, will bring some snow and slippery travel conditions farther to the east from Virginia to Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and southern New England from later Thursday to Thursday night”, explains AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
“The second storm of the weekend will follow quickly after the first storm. From Sunday to Sunday night, cold air will be in place, and even colder air will move in as the storm travels along. Because of the cold air’s eastward push, the second storm will tend to remain weak, track farther to the east and bring more wintry precipitation closer to the Atlantic coast”.
