National Burrito Day deals: Where to get great discounts and freebies this year
Burritos have been an integral part of both American and Mexican cuisine for over a century and today, April 3 we will be celebrating the popular wrap.
Burritos occupy a special place in both Mexican and American cuisine - since its introduction north of the border over a century ago. Its true origins will remain a fascinating topic of debate but that won’t matter today, as we celebrate National Burrito Day - marked annually on the first Thursday in April.
The word “burrito” translated from Spanish means “little donkey” - possibly relating to the choice of transport favored by Mexican street vendors who often used mules to transport their wares in baskets.
The tortilla-filled wraps we know today most likely emerged as a result of the blending of Mexican and European cuisines after the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. This theory is explored by Jeffrey Pilcher, a food history professor at the University of Toronto, in his book Planet Taco: A Global History of Mexican Food.
As it’s National Burrito Day, let’s take a look at some of the best deals on offer.
