Nevada Politician Robert Telles sentenced to prison for murder: How long is his jail time?

Robert Telles, a 47-year-old former Clark County public administrator, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2022 killing of Las Vegas Review-Journal investigative journalist Jeff German. The jury delivered their verdict after nearly 12 hours of deliberation, following an eight-day trial.

The jury sentenced Telles to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years.

The crime and the trial

German, a veteran reporter with over four decades of experience, was found stabbed to death outside his home on Labor Day weekend 2022. The 69-year-old journalist had written articles critical of Telles’ conduct in office, including allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and hostile workplace behavior.

Prosecutors presented a compelling case against Telles, including DNA evidence found under German’s fingernails, security footage of the assailant, and video of Telles’ SUV near the crime scene. They argued that Telles, who lost his primary for re-election, killed the journalist in retaliation for the perceived damage to his career and reputation.

Glenn Cook, executive editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, stated that the verdict “delivered a measure of justice” for German, who was “killed for doing the kind of work in which he took great pride”.
