New York’s dating scene decoded: TikTok star ‘Ellie for the Girls’ reveals where the hot guys hangout
TikToker Ellie Williams is guiding her female friends to New York’s secret places where they can spice up their love lives.
Dating in the modern, disenfranchised digital age has become a complicated issue - now more than ever. But TikToker Ellie Williams thinks she might have the answer. She hopes her endeavors will bring like-minded singletons together in in New York City.
‘Ellie for the Girls’ is a brand spotlighting NYC’s coolest people, their go-to spots, and the city’s vibrant social scene. It “create spaces where connections happen naturally—whether you’re looking for new friends, great conversations, or even a little romance..."
For the past year and a half, Ellie has been exploring the glitzy world of the city’s nightlife, interviewing people on the street to find out where are the coolest places - bars, clubs, and restaurants can be found in lower Manhattan.
The places to be seen in NYC
Gen Z, those born around the new millennium to 2012, are apparently “dating less” and Ellie wants to give people her age a helping hand. “So basically, the origin of how this all this started was listening to conversations. Everyone was asking me these questions - you always see these cute guys on the street but where do they go out at night?
“So I was like, I’m gonna start going up to people on the street, asking them where they go out,” Ellie explains.
Interacting, for Gen Z, is a tricky world to navigate. “There just so much, like, empowerment and evolution toward women holding these like, y’know big job positions or development in career but it seems like within the dynamic of men and women, women are so nervous to go up to men and men are now less likely to go up to women because they’re trying to figure out, like, the right way to do it”.
Myles, 23, one of the guys who Ellie stopped on the street agreed that dating in NYC right now “is a bit of a shit show” but did give her a few tips about where he likes to hang out - Million Goods hub in Greenpoint.
Superior Ingredients on Wythe Ave and N 12th Street in Brooklym is the place to be says Beau, 28, a DJ and producer. “Good for dance music, great sound, the views are insane... the whole of New York City skyline”.
The views, according to Elisa, are even better at penthouse rooftop bar and disco Le Bain. “It’s different every night of the week. I typically go on a Thursday night but now that it’s summer, and the massive rooftop is up, it’s a vibe”.
