Nikola Tesla, inventor: “The world moves slowly and new truths are difficult to see”

Although he lived in the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth, his reflections remain strikingly timeless even in 2026.

Three hundred patents bear the name of Nikola Tesla. His extraordinary mind produced inventions between 1856 and 1943 that would change the course of human history: developments and technologies such as the alternating current power system, the Tesla coil, radio, remote control, the first fluorescent and neon tubes, and the induction motor.

He was a creative mind who not only left us advances that once seemed like science fiction, but also words worth reflecting on every day and in many different contexts. After all, what you think on a Monday morning may be different from what you think on a Friday night, and by Saturday afternoon the world may feel almost like a fantasy.

“The world moves slowly, and new truths are difficult to see”

With this statement, Tesla was not only referring to the passage of time in our lives but also to how we perceive it. Do you remember when you were a child and a birthday party with friends seemed to last forever, while now time flies by? Do you remember when summer felt endless as a child, nearly ninety days of freedom and adventure, while today the idea of working through the summer or even planning a few days at the beach with family can feel exhausting?

Time itself is the same. The world moves at the same pace. Yet reality constantly changes. The “new truths” Tesla described are difficult to see. For him, the slow pace at which humanity adopts new ideas, society’s resistance to change, and the frustration he felt when his breakthroughs took years to be understood all fit together.

He longed to see those “new truths”: his new projects, the extraordinary possibilities of his inventions, and the chance to build a more advanced world where technology could make life easier.

This idea aligns perfectly with his philosophy. It reflects not only the frustration he felt when he could not convince his contemporaries of the significance of his work, but also his belief that the world moves slowly while profound new realities emerge around us. Those new truths can be extraordinary, even if we fail to notice them.

Anyone can understand this idea in everyday life. Sometimes a change involving a job, a home, an illness, or a relationship can feel as if it has transformed everything. Yet the Earth continues spinning at roughly 1,000 miles per hour, completing a rotation every twenty-four hours.

Even so, there are days when, no matter how slowly you feel you are moving, everything is quietly reorganizing itself. Things are shifting into place so that those new truths, that change, that step forward, can succeed.

That is why Tesla remains such an inspiration. Although he lived in the nineteenth century and the early twentieth, and gave humanity innovations far ahead of his time, his reflections remain remarkably relevant in 2026.

Today the world may seem to move too quickly, driven by endless digital scrolling. In reality, however, new truths are still difficult to see. They are not found on a screen, but by looking up from it. And the engine of change, if you are looking for one, is within you.
