Not everything is more expensive in 2025: These 8 day-to-day items have dropped a lot in price lately
Increased competition between producers is one of the main reasons for a number of everyday products becoming more affordable.

Ever get the feeling everything is getting more and more expensive in the modern world? Between global crises, inflation and the seemingly never-ending threat of recession, you’d be forgiven for feeling that way, especially with salaries not increasing at the same rate.
There are, however, still some serious bargains to be had. And some on everyday items that might surprise you, such as these ones.
8 products that are less expensive than you think
Smartphones
Due to improved production efficiency, a growing market for refurbished models and increased competition, the average smartphone price dropped from over $318 in 2021 to $287 in 2021. Those numbers are according to London Loves Tech, who also predict a sharp rise in the next five years. Get buying quickly.
Televisions
TVs have dropped in price for basically the same reasons as smartphones, as well as the fact smart TVs generate revenue through data collection.
Solar panels
Technological advancements, government policies and, again, increased competition have led to an astonishing drop for this sustainable power source. According to The Conference Board, manufacturing costs fell from $5 per watt in 2000 to less than $0.25 in 2023.
Used cars and trucks
It feels as if new cars are more expensive than ever these days, so used cars have become an attractive alternative for many. Per CNBC, 2022 and 2023 saw price drops of 15% and 7% respectively following inflated covid-19 pandemic prices. However, the trend has reversed slightly since then, so don’t hang around if you’re thinking about getting a second-hand vehicle.
Smart home assistants
Like other technology, the price of smart home assistants has decreased due to increased production. Whether its voice-activated lighting, security or entertainment, more companies are offering this service, which has helped drive down how much it’ll set you back.
Sports goods and equipment
Increased market competition (sound familiar?), supply chain improvements and shifts in consumer demand are thought to be the main reasons you can get workout gear, outdoor sports equipment, or athletic apparel for lower prices than you previously could.

Cell phone services
You’ve bought your cheap(ish) smartphone, and you shouldn’t have to pay a fortune for cell phone services either nowadays. There are more carriers than ever before, while network technology continues to improve, both of which help keep prices down. When prepaid options, family discounts and promotional offers are added into the mix, there are some fine deals to be had.
Electric vehicles
Electric vehicles are slowly becoming more mainstream, although they generally remain considerably more expensive than their gas counterparts. That said, the gap is narrowing, with prices of EVs on the way down, as highlighted by the New York Times. As well as more companies producing such vehicles, government incentives are also convincing some to make the switch to electric.
