While animated films are often overlooked by adults as movies that are “just for kids,” many classics have earned acclaim from beyond their young audiences.
This year, five animated films released in 2022 have a chance to take home an Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday:
- ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’
- ‘Marcel the Shell with Shoes On’
- ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’
- ‘The Sea Beast’
- ‘Turning Red.’
All are nominated for Best Animated Feature but received no other nominations. The winner will join the ranks of beloved classics like ‘Shrek,’ ‘Spirited Away,’ and ‘Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.’ Each of these films that have taken home the award for Best Animated Feature illustrates the different mediums that have been recognized over the years.

Which animated movies have received the most Oscars?
The highest number of Oscars any animated film has been able to take home is two, and there are a total of eight films that have done so:
- ‘Shrek 2′ (2001) - Best Animated Feature & Best Adapted Screenplay
- ‘The Incredibles’ (2004) - Best Animated Feature & Best Sound Editing
- ‘Up’ (2009) - Best Animated Feature & Best Original Score
- ‘Toy Story 3′ (2010) - Best Animated Feature & Best Original Song (Randy Newman for “We Belong Together”)
- ‘Frozen’ - Best Animated Feature & Best Original Song (Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for “Let It Go”)
- ‘Coco’ - 2 Best Animated Feature & Best Original Song (Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (for “Remember Me”)
- ‘Toy Story 4′ - Best Animated Feature & Best Original Song (Randy Newman for “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away”)
- ‘Soul’ - Best Animated Feature & Best Original Score.
