The Great North American Solar Eclipse will take place today, 8 April 2024, visible across large swaths of the Pacific Ocean, the continent and the Caribbean. The path of totality will make landfall near Mazatlán, Mexico and then the Moon’s shadow will make its way up to Texas.

Once in the United States it will pass over a dozen plus states before crossing into Canada at the border of Maine and New Brunswick. After crossing the Maritimes, it will head out into the Atlantic Ocean where it will end before reaching Europe.

The awe-inspiring celestial event will provide the perfect opportunity for fans of Pink Floyd to pair the spectacle with their album ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’.

Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’: How to sync the album with the solar eclipse

In order to sync the exact moment that the Moon will completely block out the Sun’s light to coincide with the last song’s closing line “And everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon,” you can check your location on Time and Date. If you are listening to the whole album on Spotify, you will have to calculate 41 minutes and 53 seconds before the start of the total eclipse where you will be viewing it.

Fans that use the free version of Spotify or are planning to use another streaming platform, as well as listen to the album on CD or vinyl, keep in mind that the run time may vary, so check ahead.

If you don’t have time to do that, or you just want to listen to the final track ‘Eclipse’, you’ll want to start the song 70 seconds prior to when the totality of the eclipse will reach your location.

The total solar eclipse will last for 4 minutes and 26 seconds when it crosses into Texas near Eagle Pass at the center of the path of totality, and less the further away from the center that you get to perhaps a few seconds. By the time it reaches Canada the time will have reduced to at most 3 minutes and 21 seconds of totality at the center of the path.
