After a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in New York City on Thursday evening, a small plane crashed on Friday on a busy road outside Boca Raton Airport in the Sunshine State.
The aircraft burst into a ball of fire, witnesses said. The air traffic tragedies that have taken place this year have shocked the country, which has been known for years as having one of the safest air traffic control systems and spaces in the world.
What we know about the crash
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), three people were aboard the twin-engine Cessna 310 when it crashed. The condition of the passengers has not been made public by first responders or local authorities.
The plane reportedly took off from Boca Raton at approximately 10:20 a.m. and was headed to Tallahassee. Authorities investigating, which, according to CNN, include both the FAA and the National Transporation Safety Board, know that the aircraft circled the airport in Boca Raton a few times before it crashed.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a plane crash occurred earlier today within our community,” said Boca Raton’s mayor Scott Singer.
The mayor asked for patience as investigators get to the bottom of what happened in this terrifying accident that endangered the lives onboard the aircraft, as well as those around the site of the crash.
