Protests on July 4: What you need to know about the ‘Free America Weekend’ and ‘No Kings 2.0’
There are more protests scheduled on July 4. Here’s all the information.
Since the first one went so well, why wouldn’t the No Kings protesters organise another one? After millions of people took to the streets for Trump’s 79th birthd- Oh that is a mistake.
Ahem. Millions of people took the streets for the hugely popular No Kings protests on June 14, a series of anti-Trump rallies that looked to shine a light on the egregious actions of the president since taking office for the second time.
They worked brilliantly, and they’re back again.
Reports say that a number of protests are set to get going once more; with the day of July 4 as the epicentre, the new mobilisation appears - which includes a No Kings 2.0 - to be the early droplets that will combine to form a wave of peaceful protests from the American people, sick and tired of the way in which the political classes have run the country into the ground.
Yes. The No Kings 2.0 is set to take place between 1pm and 2pm CDT on July 4, with the starting location Walnut St Bridge in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
“This isn’t about left vs. right; this is about the people vs. power unchecked. No more leaders above the law. No more silence when rights are stripped away. No more fear, manipulation, or false patriotism," the website explains.
Yahoo reports that the No Kings protests will “dovetail with Free America events through Fourth of July weekend, organised by the Women’s March." Put together to “protect democracy with joyful resistance,” the Free America movement is a series of community events across the country that includes block parties and painting murals, as well as more typical July 4 celebrations.
But the three-day holiday weekend of events will, it turns out, merely serve as a precursor to yet more nationwide protests dubbed “Good Trouble Lives On,” set to be held on July 17.
The Good Trouble Lives On protests are, in their own words, a "national day of action to respond to the attacks on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration". The website adds that “together, we’ll remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.”
