Psychologists agree people who write things down on a paper calendar have these four traits
People who still use paper calendars may share a surprising set of personality traits, according to psychology experts.
A few years ago, it was common to write things down on a calendar so they would not be forgotten – birthdays, doctor’s appointments or everyday commitments. With the arrival of smartphones, that habit has changed, and many people now prefer to rely on digital alarms and reminders.
However, if you are still someone who writes plans in a paper calendar, psychology suggests you may share four characteristic traits.
Experts say these people often place a higher value on tangible experiences, since the practice creates a physical record that can be kept for a lifetime. Having something handwritten that can be held and revisited over the years often creates a sense of joy and emotional connection.
Positive anticipation
People who mark important dates in red or highlight certain days also tend to experience a stronger sense of positive anticipation. Psychologist Robert Zajonc argued that familiarity creates affection, and that the more we interact with something, the more value we tend to give it.
Psychology also suggests that people who write their goals down on paper may be more likely to achieve them. This was reflected in a study conducted by psychologist Gail Matthews, who found that people who write down their goals are 40% more likely to accomplish them.
The final trait highlighted by experts is that people who use paper calendars often value simplicity more highly. In an era dominated by technology, taking the time to write by hand represents, for many, a way to step away from the digital environment and maintain more traditional habits.
