Silvia Severino, psychologist: “The 1st daughter usually inherits her father’s temperament, which is why conflicts often arise with the mother”

Children are always a recurring topic of conversation within families, especially in the early years, along with the usual comparisons. Who does the child look more like, dad or mom? These comments are often based on genetics, but personality is part of that inheritance as well.

This is the focus of Silvia Severino, a psychologist who has gained prominence on social media and who, in one of her latest videos, discussed firstborn daughters and the temperament they may inherit.

Severino explains that “the first daughter often inherits the father’s temperament. She does not only inherit physical traits. In many families, they also resemble each other in how they react and express their personality.”

“That is why many first daughters are impulsive, more intense, and struggle with being told what to do,” she continues. “This often leads to conflicts with the mother, because the daughter reflects traits of the father through a female identity.”

A resemblance that can go beyond physical traits

The psychologist makes it clear that “it is nobody’s fault. It is a family dynamic that, once understood, can be managed more effectively.”

Reactions online were quick to follow. One TikTok user commented, “I am the second daughter, and I am exactly like my father. My sister was the first daughter, and she is exactly like my mother,” casting doubt on Severino’s claim. Others say they strongly relate to her observations, while many note that they see this same dynamic with their second daughter instead.
