Social Security is paid out on Wednesday, June 3: who benefits?
As the Social Security Administration (SSA) embarks on its payment schedule for June 2026, certain Social Security recipients in the U.S. are to get their latest monthly benefits next week.
On Wednesday, June 3, payments are to be sent out to two groups of Social Security beneficiaries.
Who’s receiving Social Security on Wednesday, June 3?
- Some long-term Social Security recipients
June’s Social Security payments are to be issued to recipients who signed up for their benefits before May 1997.
- Double beneficiaries
June 3 is also the distribution date for Social Security beneficiaries who combine the program with the Supplemental Security Income scheme (SSI).
A scheme for certain low-income, low-resource individuals, SSI differs from Social Security as eligibility does not depend on a recipient’s employment history.
In June, SSI benefits - which currently average $738.22 per month - are scheduled to be paid out on Monday 1.
How much is paid to Social Security beneficiaries?
- Retirement benefits: $2,026.41
- Disability benefits: $1,493.20
- Survivor benefits: $1,625.56
Average monthly benefits, per stats shared by the SSA.
When are other Social Security recipients paid for June?
Of the U.S.’s 71 million Social Security beneficiaries, most will be paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in June, depending on their date of birth:
- Born on 1st-10th of any month: Weds., June 10
- Born on 11th-20th of any month: Weds., June 17
- Born on 21st-31st of any month: Weds., June 24
Important: If you claim Social Security based on someone else’s work record the SSA refers to the other person’s birthday.
How does the Social Security Administration make benefits payments?
- Direct deposit
Social Security recipients can update their bank-account information using the online “my Social Security” tool.
- Direct Express
Money can be paid onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements. Sign up at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
