What about globally?
Of course the US is not the centre of the universe and people globally have different tastes in music. What this means is Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny knocks Drake off top spot. This repeats his success in 2020 and 2021 as he was again Spotify’s most-streamed artist globally, racking up an astonishing 18.5 billion streams this year.
This was aided by the release of his album “Un Verano Sin Ti” or “A summer without you” in English. It was released 6 May, 2022 and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The global success can also be attributed to the popularity of reggaeton music, big in the US but also in South America as well as the majority of Europe.
