Taco Tuesday: Trump Administration Chinese Offer. The U.S. government extends the TikTok deadline 90 days for China

Update:

We have a new episode of Trump pushing back deadlines and threats and it just happens to be on TACO Tuesday. The president has been postponing taking over or closing TikTok ever since he took office in January. With the new deadline on Sep. 17, he has been forced to push it back another 90 days.

“We may let it die, or we may, I don’t know, it depends. It’s up to China,” Trump answered when asked about the upcoming deadline. The Chinese social media app has over 170 million users in the U.S. and the Chinese and U.S. governments have been in talks for months to figure out a solution.

Recent talks in Madrid didn’t end in a solution to the problem, but the U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the deadline once again would be pushed back. “They’re interested in Chinese characteristics of the app, which they think are soft power. We don’t care about Chinese characteristics. We care about national security,” he said.

Not only has the Trump Administration not shut down the app due to concerns about user data being manipulated by the Chinese government, in August the White House opened an official account on the app.

So, Trump continues to back out on agreements and extend deadlines, thus weakening the U.S. government’s position in global affairs with nations such as Russia and China. There have been no updates on sanctions on Russia ever since Trump rolled out the red carpet for Putin in Alaska.

And, going back to his campaign prior to the November elections, he claimed he was going to get tough with China before, but nine months after being sworn in, he’s still pushing back deadlines for the Chinese.

Trump recently backed down on his threat to send troops to Chicago too. After facing protests and getting called out by Illinois Governor Pritzker, Trump has had to look for other cities to continue his attempt to divert attention from the Epstein files.
