2024 SOLAR ECLIPSE
The best spots to watch the total solar eclipse in Texas
Parts of Texas do fall within the path of totality. Here are the best places to view the eclipse in the Lone Star state, as well as some great back ups.
San Antonio will be the first major city in Texas to experience the solar eclipse, which will take place on Monday, 8 April, starting at around 1:35 pm CDT. Moving north to Fort Worth and Dallas, residents will have a chance to experience totality around 1:40 pm CDT and 1:45 pm CDT, respectively. Outside these cities, there are smaller towns that fall within the path of totality, and if experiencing such an event is important to you, make plans ahead of time as to where and how you plan to get there.
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) has also created parking spots at “general aviation airports” for the event so that cars can congregate in areas without blocking traffic and safely view the eclipse.
Make sure you account for increased traffic
Tomorrow, traffic in the path of totality is expected to surge, prompting the TxDMV to take proactive measures to ensure a smoother travel experience for everyone.” Due to the eclipse that is expected to cause traffic delays, size/weight permitted travel will be prohibited on that day,” a spokesperson for TXDMV told Chron. All vehicles with oversized or overweight permits will not be allowed to travel in the following counties.
