Update:

A viral TikTok trend from Chinese influencers has infiltrated U.S. users, and they’re encouraging Americans to bypass President Donald Trump’s steep tariffs on Chinese goods. They are telling Americans to buy directly from factories in China instead.

Chinese influencers mock U.S. tariffs

Currently, Chinese exports face a 145% levy, while Trump has paused further tariffs on other countries for 90 days. The videos from these influencers claim to offer a way to avoid the tariffs altogether.

They are often filmed inside factories that claim to produce goods for major U.S. brands like Lululemon and Nike, promote cheaper prices, and provide contact information for direct ordering.

“Why don’t you just contact us and buy from us? You won’t believe the prices we give you,” said a creator selling luxury handbags.

One viral video even claimed that Lululemon leggings made in China cost just five to six dollars to produce, despite retail outlets selling them for over $100 in the U.S. Lululemon, however, has refuted this claim, saying only a small percentage of its goods are made in China and are only sold through official channels.

The campaign has gained traction on TikTok, with some videos reaching millions of views, including one titled “China exposed the truth”. Experts say that this is an attempt to counter Trump’s tariff policy by portraying Chinese products as affordable and accessible despite the trade restrictions, although it’s not clear how effective this method actually is - especially with a small-parcel duty waiver ending on May 2.
