ROYAL FAMILY
The reason why Meghan Markle and her children will not attend the coronation of Charles III
The Duchess of Sussex has decided to stay in Los Angeles, California, and many are wondering why only Harry has traveled.
Meghan Markle and her children are notably absentees from the coronation of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and Queen Camila. The Duchess of Sussex has not accompanied Prince Harry for the enthronement ceremony and is at their Montecito mansion in Los Angeles, in the company of their children, Archie and Lilibet Diana. The bad relationship between the former actress and her in-laws could be behind her absence on such an important day for her father-in-law, although these are not the reasons given publicly.
Ever since Lady Diana’s son confirmed that Markle had decided to “remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” the world’s media began to speculate about why his wife had not called a truce and made plans to attend. The cold war within the royal family continues, as happened after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Meghan: real reason for coronation absence
After learning that Markle would not be at the coronation at Westminster Abbey, The Telegraph reported that her absence had to do with her disagreements with King Charles III. After the controversial interview that the couple gave Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, in which the Duchess commented that while she was pregnant with Archie, their first child, “there were concerns and conversations about how dark his skin could be when born” into the royal family, Markle is said to have sent several letters to the then-Prince of Wales expressing her concern about racist prejudices within ‘The Firm’.
To put a stop to these rumors about the reasons for her absence, the American, through a spokesperson, settled the speculation with a statement sent to the UK version of Hello! magazine.
“The Duchess of Sussex lives her life in the present, without thinking about the correspondence of two years ago related to the conversations of four years ago. Any speculation to the contrary is false and downright ridiculous. We encourage the tabloid media and various royal correspondents to stop the exhausting circus that only they are creating,” the text read.
Likewise, we must remember that May 6 is also a very significant date for the Sussexes, since it is the fourth birthday of Archie, their eldest son. And, in fact, Prince Harry will not be hanging around and will fly back to California after his father’s ceremony to join the celebrations of the next generation in his family.
