Season 22 of ‘The Voice’ premiered on Monday, 19 September, and fans are excited to see its return.

Those tuning in were welcomed by a new host, singer Camila Cabello, who in her youth formed part of the girl group Fifth Harmony. After going single, Cabello has had tremendous success, receiving three Grammy nominations and her seeing her first two albums go platinum in the United States.

Cabello has replaced Kelly Clarkson, who now has her own daytime talk show and has left ‘The Voice’ after six seasons. During her time as a coach, Clarkson helped two acts win the entire competition.

Who won the competition in 2021?

Last season, coached by singer Kelly Clarkson, Girl Named Tom took home the grand prize.

Girl Named Tom is a folk trio made up of three members who happen to be siblings: Caleb Liechty, Joshua Liechty, and Bekah Liechty. The name of the group stems from the fact that as children, Bekah’s older brothers used to call her Thomas -- a sign that perhaps it was a brother they were hoping for.

The three singers are from Ohio, where they grew up creating harmonies and put on shows for other members of their families. The trio describes the mission of their music as a way “to create harmony in a society divided.” By combining their “three unique voices,” they believe that they “can inspire the world with a common goal: To fly and help each other fly.” Overall it seems that the group is looking to avoid politicization and focused on building a following.

During their blind audition, which caused all four coaches to turn their chairs, they sang “Helplessly Hoping,” originally sung by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Currently, the group’s cover of the classic son has over 1.1 million streams on Spotify.

Their final song, which led to their victory against Wendy Moten, was Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.”

What’s next for Girl Named Tom?

Later this year, the group will point Pentatonix on tour for ‘A Christmas Spectacular.’

In an Instagram post, the siblings shared their excitement, saying, “Way back to 2012, every time PTX put up a YouTube video, we would gather around our family’s Dell computer in absolute AWE of what we heard coming out of those speakers.

The group is excited to be joining PTX on tour and hoping that it will help them to grow their fan base beyond that which was acquired through their time on ‘The Voice.’
