Before embarking on a college education, it is best to study all options in terms of financing and costs, so that you do not end up being saddled with student debt for most of your adult life.

These are the 10 states with the lowest college tuition and fees

According to Insider Monkey, the state that offers the cheapest college education is surprisingly one of the most expensive to live in. According to the finance website, the cost of two-year college tuition and fees in the Golden State amounts to only $1,428. The site says that it is now cheaper to get higher education in the state because fees have been reduced by 16% over the last five years.

In second place is one of the poorest states in the US, New Mexico, where tuition is estimated to be a little over $2,000. Third position goes to North Carolina, where college tuition for two years would cost a little below $2,500.
