Families across the United States have been struggling with inflation over the past few years putting a strain on household finances. In order to provide financial relief to families in California’s capital city a pilot project called Sacramento Family First was designed to deliver $725 monthly payments to select residents for a year.
The first of these payments from the Sacramento Family First program went out on December 15, 2024 and will continue until November 15 this year. 200 families will receive these crucial funds to help ease their financial burden.

The Sacramento Family First program has strict requirements in order to qualify. Firstly, those selected must live in one of the six zip codes that are primarily in the Arden-Arcade, Florin and McLellan Park neighborhoods. These include 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828, 95838.

Additionally, the entire family’s household income must be below 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL) to qualify. This is calculated on pre-tax earnings and varies according to family size. Payments from the Sacramento Family First program will mainly be made through direct deposit to accounts associated with the recipient’s tax return. Those without such information will have a physical check sent to the mailing address on file with the Department of Revenue.
In addition to the monthly payments, recipients will receive financial literacy training to help develop entrepreneurial skills. This is intended to help bridge the social and economic gap and foster contributing to the community.
