These are the Social Security payments that will arrive before the end of 2024: Are you on the list?
December ends in two weeks, but there are still some Social Security payments left to be sent.
As the year ends, Social Security payments continue to be distributed. Meanwhile, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is gearing up to issue increased payments for the upcoming year, which will see a 2.5 percent rise due to the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).
The COLA for 2025 will affect payments for retired workers, survivors, and disability benefits, including Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Meanwhile, the SSA will issue the final payments of the year, so check to see if you’re eligible to receive them.
Social Security payments sent before the end of 2024
The distribution in December was dispatched on Friday, November 29. Conversely, on Tuesday, December 3, payments were issued to beneficiaries who had started receiving their payments before May 1997.
On Wednesday, December 11, SSA issued payments to beneficiaries whose birth dates fall between December 1 and December 10. The schedule for the remaining payments for the year is as follows.
This is how Social Security payments will increase in 2025
With the 2.5% COLA increase, this is how average payments will increase for next year, according to the Social Security Administration:
The maximum federal monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) amount will be $967 for an eligible individual, $1,450 for an eligible individual with an eligible spouse, and $484 for an essential person.
On the other hand, although not related to the COLA increase, the maximum amounts a retiree can receive will also increase by 2025. According to the official SSA payment table, for 2025, the maximum benefit at age 62 will be $2,831; at age 65, $3,374; at age 66, $3,795; at age 67, $4,043; and at age 70 and older, $5,108.
The specific amount received varies by beneficiary since Social Security payments are determined individually. To estimate your payment for the upcoming year, you can increase your current benefits by 2.5 percent. The SSA will inform beneficiaries of their updated amount via mail or through their mySocialSecurity account.
