Where were the recalled eggs sold?

Twenty-five Costco stores across Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee sold the eggs, but not all locations that have distributed the eggs fall under the health advisory.

Handsome Brook Farms issued the voluntary recall of 10,800 cartons of eggs sold under the Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised label after determining that there was a risk of salmonella contamination within their supply chain.

The affected products include 24-count packages of this brand with a UPC of 9661910680, a Julian code of 327, and a use-by date of Jan. 5, 2025. The FDA says no other items were affected by this recall.

The government agency advises consumers who bought the recalled eggs to throw them away or return them eggs to Costco for a full refund.

FDA urges caution as this becomes the ninth outbreak this year

So far, no illnesses from Costco’s eggs have been reported, but as outbreaks of Salmonella rise, public health officials are encouraging companies to take extreme precaution.

This was the ninth outbreak on record this year, one of the highest figures since 2020.

The CDC estimates that around 1.35 million cases of salmonella occur in the United States each year. Though not typically fatal, new strains of salmonella have shown resistance to the antibiotics typically prescribed to patients who become in effect.

Public health advice suggests that doctors only prescribe antibiotics in severe cases, to limit the risk posed by resistant strains.

If you have any questions about the outbreak or would like additionally information, customers should contact the supplier, Handsome Brook Farms at Handsome Brook Farms via phone at 646-733-4532, ext. 1, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm EST. Email inquiries can also be sent to recall@hbfeggs.com.

Costco is offering full refunds for the products that fall under the recall.
