This is how Trump’s latest decision on tariffs could benefit Elon Musk’s Tesla
The latest twist in the ongoing saga of the Trump tariffs saw smartphones, computers and some other electronics imported largely from China made exempt.

In the latest tariffs twist, Donald Trump’s administration have granted exclusions from steep tariffs on smartphones, computers and other electronics imported largely from China, providing a big break to tech firms like Apple that rely on imported products.
The action also excludes the specified electronics from Trump’s 10% “baseline” tariffs on goods from most countries other than China, easing import costs for semiconductors from Taiwan and Apple iPhones produced in India.

Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives called the announcement about the tech exclusions “the most bullish news we could have heard this weekend.”
“There is still clear uncertainty and volatility ahead with these China negotiations.... Big Tech firms like Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft and the broader tech industry can breathe a huge sigh of relief this weekend into Monday,” Ives said in an industry note.
Good news for Tesla?
The latest development could spell good news for Tesla CEO and head of DOGE Elon Musk.
Flat-screen displays and integrated circuits which feature in Tesla vehicles are also on the list of items exempted from tariffs with Tesla cars all having flat touchscreen displays and come with advanced onboard computers.
Many flat-screen displays are manufactured in Asia, which Trump has initially targeted through tariffs. Taiwan Semiconductor and Samsung, who have manufactured chips for Tesla previously, have manufacturing capacity in China, Taiwan, South Korea, and other countries.
