This is when you’ll get your Social Security check in September 2025: Full payment schedule
Here’s everything you need to know about Social Security payments for September 2025.
As September rolls in, millions of Americans receiving Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) should take note: a scheduling quirk means some will see a surprising twist in their usual payment routine.
Typically, SSI payments hit accounts on the first of the month. But with Labor Day landing on Monday, September 1, the Social Security Administration (SSA) nudged the payment forward to Friday, August 29. That means SSI recipients get two payouts in August—and none in September.
Those checks follow a birthday-based staggered schedule:
- If your birth date falls between the 1st and 10th, you’re paid on the second Wednesday of the month.
- For birthdays from the 11th to the 20th, it’s the third Wednesday.
- And if you were born between the 21st and 31st, expect your check on the fourth Wednesday.
In September, those dates fall on September 10, 17, and 24, respectively. The SSA shifts payments to avoid bank delays when the regular date hits a weekend or federal holiday.
Aside from calendar quirks, other financial changes are in motion. Since January 2025, recipients have seen a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment, adding close to $50 to the average monthly check.
