Two homemade tricks to get your fan to blow cold air

With summer temperatures sending the mercury soaring here are two neat tips to help you cool down.

With temperatures soaring this summer it’s always good to have some tips and tricks to help cool down, particularly if you either don’t have air conditioning, or are facing soaring bills to have it running.

Here are two tricks to get your fan to blow colder air, rather than just circulating the air

The salt and ice trick

This is a simple trick that’s also gone viral. You need a metal bowl, ice and coarse salt. Fill the bowl with ice and salt, and place it right in front of the fan, so that the air is directed towards the area that we want to cool. As the ice melts due to the effect of the salt, the fan will spread these water particles around the room, helping cool the air.

The soda bottle trick

Another viral trick to get a fan to blow cold air requires a couple of soda bottles. Simply follow the following steps:

1. Open a surface on the bottom of the bottle with a cutter or scissors and make a couple of holes in the mouth of the bottle for ventilation

2. Place the bottles on the back of the fan, fastened with cable ties or wires, one on each side.

3. Put some ice cubes in the bottles, with the cap closed, and start the fan - bish, bash, bosh, cold air!
