U2′s Bono and The Edge play improv show in Kyiv metro

The duo teamed up with Taras Topolia (“Antytila”) in Kyiv’s Khreshchatyk metro station on Sunday for a ‘Solidarity with Ukraine’ improv concert.

Bono and The Edge, frontman and guitarist of one of the most famous bands in the world, U2 , held a surprise concert in the Kyiv subway on Sunday afternoon in a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine.

As the Russian invasion of it’s neighbour enters it’s 74th day, the band confirmed that they were invited to the capital by President Zelensky. “We were invited us to play in Kiev in the form of solidarity with the Ukrainians and so here’s what we came to do“.

The band joined up with local artist Taras Topolia, frontman of the band Antytila as he joined Bono for a powerful version of ‘Stand by Me’ in front of a small crowd at Kyiv’s Khreshchatyk metro station, which has become an improvised bomb shelter during the Russian invasion.

The U2 duo then performed a series of the band’s most iconic songs including: Sunday Bloody Sunday , Desire and With or Without You. “People in Ukraine are not just fighting for their freedom alone but for all of us who love freedom,” Bono said as the anti-aircraft alarm sirens sounded in the capital during the brief performance.
