US ELECTION 2024
What did Donald Trump do before becoming a politician and what is his background and education?
Beyond his time in the White House, Trump reaped success in the business world, specifically in the real estate sector, and in the world of entertainment.
Four years after leaving the White House following Joe Biden’s electoral victory, Donald John Trump is running for the third time, and second in a row, in the United States presidential elections.
If the Republican succeeds in regaining the presidency, it will be the second time that this has happened in the United States. Only Grover Cleveland, who was the 22nd (1885-1889) and 24th (1893-1897) US president and representing the Democratic Party, was able to achieve this. The tycoon defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton eight years ago after obtaining 306 electoral votes, that is, almost 63 million votes.
Now, Trump is trying to lead a new era at the head of the world’s leading power, with a firm decision to draw up a new roadmap at the national level and in foreign policy, with the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and Ukraine in focus. But beyond a former president like any other, lies a famous and relevant figure in the United States.
Vocational training
Going back to his beginnings, the tycoon studied at the Kew-Forest School in Forest Hills, Queens (New York), although at the age of 13 he was admitted to the New York Military Academy (NYMA).
Later, in 1968, he graduated in Economics from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, an educational center where he continued his studies after having previously spent two years at Fordham University in the Bronx.
Entrepreneurial stage and fortune
His career in business began when he was 25, when he took her first steps in his father Fred’s family business Elizabeth Trump and Son, which was dedicated to the construction of low-cost housing. Trump specialized in the real estate sector, joined the company in 1968 and began leading it in 1971. He remains at the head to this day of what is now known as The Trump Organization, which focuses on large-scale projects, with its headquarters in Manhattan, New York.
It was not until the 1980s that he established himself as a benchmark for business in the United States. Among his business projects, some worth mentioning are the renovation of the Commodore Hotel, renamed the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and the acquisition of the Taj Mahal Casino in a transaction with Merv Griffin and Resorts International.
Above all, the inauguration of the Trump Tower in Manhattan stands out, located at 725 Fifth Avenue in New York. A 58-story building that, in the end, would become the symbol par excellence of his personal brand. His fortune, according to Forbes on its website, is estimated at around $8 billion. His conglomerate, The Trump Organization, is dedicated to the management of properties and hotels in different countries around the world.
Trump and the entertainment business
Donald Trump’s fame is not limited to the business world, but also to the entertainment world. There, he was the majority shareholder of the Miss USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants from 1996 to 2015, the year before his election victory.
From 2004 to 2015, he participated in The Apprentice, an NBC reality show, and made a cameo in the series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starring Will Smith, in which he appeared accompanied by his then wife, actress Marla Maples.
He also made cameos in other series such as Susan (1997), The Drew Carey Show (1997), Celebrity (1998) or Spin City (1998).
