The United States has cultivated an image of abundance and freedom of choice, particularly when it comes to food. However, this dietary diversity does not always equate to healthy options.

Spanish influencer Nuria Calvo, known as @nurycalvosn and based in Florida, has highlighted this contradiction by sharing a striking video on TikTok. The video, which has already garnered over three million views, reveals five foods that, in her view, should not be part of the American diet.

US food “horrible for humans”

Nuria, whose content focuses on providing advice about life in the United States and cultural differences with Spain, has raised awareness about certain products that, while common in American supermarkets, may pose health risks. In her video titled “5 Foods You Shouldn’t Eat in the United States,” the content creator begins her list with chicken, explaining that chlorinated water is used to clean this product – a practice that would be banned in Europe. “You’re eating bleach, guys,” she warns, sparking concern among her followers.

Next, Nuria highlights milk as the second food to avoid. The influencer points out that all milk in the United States contains a hormone known as rBST, used to increase dairy production. “It’s horrible for humans,” she asserts, expressing her distrust of this product.

The third item on her list is Coca-Cola, which contains brominated vegetable oil and sweeteners. This ingredient, a banned additive in Europe, adds to the growing concern about the quality of soft drinks in the US market.

Food colorants in products like Doritos and popular boxed ‘Mac & Cheese’ are scrutinized in her analysis. Nuria warns about ‘yellow 5’ and ‘yellow 6,’ dyes that studies suggest are highly carcinogenic and may cause hyperactivity in children. “You should never consume products in orange packaging,” she asserts.

Finally, the influencer cautions against pork produced in the United States, which she claims contains ractopamine, a hormone banned in 160 countries. This marks the conclusion of her firm message on food safety in the country.

The video has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, where many users express concern over food quality in the United States. Comments like “I wouldn’t trade the Mediterranean diet for anything” and “What on earth is there to eat in the United States?” capture the surprise and skepticism of viewers towards American food practices.
