There are unusual laws that exist in some parts of California. It’s important for residents to know about them so that they can avoid getting in trouble.

Many people come from other states or parts of the world to live in California, and have no idea of the strange laws that exist in some areas. Fortunately, many have yet to break those laws that were created for very specific cases at particular points in time.

Here are a few of them so you are made aware of what you shouldn’t do in California, even though many of these laws are no longer enforced by authorities.

Garages are for cars only in Long Beach

This law prohibits homeowners from converting their garage into a small apartment and renting it out to someone. Due to the high rental costs in that area many people have tried to do that, but the law doesn’t allow them to. An apartment in Long Beach, California has an average cost of $2,571 for a place that is about 871 square feet.

Washing your neighbor’s car is illegal

If you are new to the city of Los Angeles and want to start having a good relationship with your neighbors, we recommend that you do not do so by washing their cars without their knowledge. That is why people on the streets are not allowed to clean the windshields of cars when they are stopped at a red light, which is a way to force the driver to pay for the cleaning service.

You cannot swear when playing mini-golf

Mini-golf is a very popular sport in California due to the hot and sunny weather that is enjoyed during much of the year. Mini-golf courts are frequented by families with children, and that is why in the city of Long Beach you cannot swear while you are using the facilities.

You can't wear cowboy boots.

Sounds weird, but it’s true. In Blythe, a city located near the California-Arizona border, you can only wear cowboy boots if you own at least two cows. This law was created to separate the real cowboys from the impostors.

You cannot get out of a moving vehicle

If you live in the city of Glendale it is illegal to get out of a moving vehicle and get into another, which makes a lot of sense since it is very dangerous. It is also illegal to drive backwards because it endangers the lives of other drivers and people walking in crosswalks.

Deadline to remove Christmas decorations

Many people do not want to get rid of Christmas decorations for one reason or another and leave them for many months. But this is not the case in San Diego, California because they established a law that it is mandatory to remove them after February 2 so as not to create light pollution.
