McDonaldland’s resident mischief-maker is driving coast-to-coast in the ‘Burgercuda’, his never-before-seen getaway car, to pull off the ultimate burger-stealing heist. What are McDonald’s updated burgers? What changes have been made?

The culinary team at McDonald’s thought about improvements that would “bring even more of that iconic McDonald’s taste to fans,” says the fast-food chain. They came up with “small but tasty improvements,” over 50 tweaks in total with the intention of making some of their core menu items better. The changes affect the Big Mac, McDouble burger and the classic Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger and Hamburger.

Senior Director of Culinary Innovation at McDonald’s USA, Chef Chad Schafer said: “We found that small changes, like tweaking our process to get hotter, meltier cheese and adjusting our grill settings for a better sear, added up to a big difference in making our burgers more flavorful than ever.”

These improvements also include changes to the buns making them “softer” and “pillowy” and which are then “freshly toasted to a golden brown.” As well, to get a “juicier, caramelized flavor” on their beef patties, the culinary team added white onions to them while still on the grill. Additionally, for fans of the Big Mac, the brand’s signature burger will have “more tangy sweetness” with more Big Mac sauce.

“McDonald’s built a legacy on serving delicious burgers, but anytime we have an opportunity to make the best even better, we take it,” Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald’s Tariq Hassan said in a press release. “It’s no surprise these changes caught the attention of our biggest burger fan – the Hamburglar. We’re excited for fans to join in on the fun as they look for him on his burger-stealing spree. You never know where he’ll pop up next.”
