A single ticket has scooped one of the largest jackpots in U.S. history, ending a record-breaking run of Powerball drawings without a grand-prize winner.

According to Powerball organizers, a ticket bought in Arkansas matched all six numbers in Wednesday’s Christmas Eve drawing, to claim an estimated $1.82 billion jackpot ($834.9 million cash option).

It is the second-biggest jackpot ever won in the U.S., surpassed only by Nov. 2022’s $2.04bn Powerball prize.

Wednesday’s drawing came nearly three months on from the lottery’s previous jackpot win. Back on Sep. 6 - an unprecedented 46 Powerball drawings earlier - two tickets had shared a $1.79bn prize.

• Receive the jackpot in full, as an annuity payment spread over 30 annual instalments that grow each year.

• Claim the lump-sum “cash option”, which is smaller but paid all at once.
