You might have learned the trick of not going grocery shopping when you’re hungry, as this leads to impulse buying and overspending on food items you may not necessarily need or want. When you’re hungry, you’re more likely to crave high-calorie, high-fat, and high-sugar foods, which can be tempting to buy but may not be the best choices for your health or budget.

However, your stomach’s satiety levels are not the only thing that you can consider if you wish to determine when exactly you should hit the supermarket for your supplies.

The pricing of groceries can vary depending on several factors, including location, store policies, and time of year. However, in general, it is observed that shoppers tend to deal with higher prices on weekends, which typically tend to be busier for grocery stores.

According to Drive Research, over half of grocery shoppers do their buying on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (59%). Shoppers tend to stock up for the weekend on Friday, then sales tend to peak on Saturday.

Majority of people shop for their groceries in person, at a physical grocery store. This means there are more hands grabbing those precious items off the shelves, sometimes leaving you with less options to choose from, and brands that cost more. Weekends are thus the worst option if you want to save money.

If not the weekend, own which days should you then go to buy groceries? Wednesday would you be your best bet to get the most from your money. Many establishments begin their special offers on this day. Speaking to GoBankingRates, consumer and money-saving expert Andrea Woroch said that since this day is when supermarkets give out their deals, you will be at the head of the line when choosing items on special offer. Woroch also says that shops may also honor the previous week’s offers, so you may have the opportunity to end up with bonus sale items.
