Update:

Though top Democrats on Capitol Hill have not publicly called on President Biden to drop out of the 2024 race for the White House, new reporting shows that behind closed doors, those opinions are being brought directly to the Commander in Chief.

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi reportedly evaluated the most recent polls and concluded that the president has a slim chance of defeating Donald Trump and that he should step down and allow another candidate with better prospects to lead the Democratic ticket in November. The main concern for Rep. Pelosi and other Democrats is losing the House of Representatives, which, up until the debate, seemed likely. With independent voters losing confidence in President Biden and the party propping him up, the chances of re-taking Congress´ lower chamber are dwindling.

So far, neither the California leader nor the White House have confirmed the reports. Still, the calls from within the party continue to grow, particularly as the Republican Party and base rally around Donald Trump.

Since the debate in late June between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the latter has overtaken the former in most major polls, and the gap has only widened. It is still early to evaluate the impact that the attempted assassination of the former president will have on the race, but it is expected to have helped Donald Trump.

Additionally, while President Biden´s numbers against Trump have worsened, those of Vice President Kamala Harris show some promise for the Democrats. The latest IPSOS poll conducted on the 15 and 16th of July shows an even race when the former president and the vice president lead their respective tickets.

Some within the party, including Nancy Pelosi, according to CNN´s reporting, would rather work to build a lead for Kamala Harris than hope that President Biden´s numbers improve as the election draws closer.
