Since the news broke that Tucker Carlson would be leaving Fox News, the prominent host of Fox News Tonight has not been heard from. The short statement released by Fox reads that the host and the network have agreed to “part ways” and thanked Carlson “for his service to the network as a host and before that as a contributor.” Tucker is not the first and unlikely the last major network star to leave Fox at the peak of their fame: Glenn Beck and Bill O’Riley are two names that come to mind.

How much was Tucker Carlson making at Fox News?

Forbes has reported that the former host was making between $15 and $20 million a year. Far-right political commentary can supply a hefty paycheck, and many outlets may be willing to pay Carlson even more than Fox for the celebrity his presence would bring. The Daily Wire had considered paying Steven Crowder, another far-right media personality, fifty million dollars over four years if he chose to begin making content for them. Crowder responded to their offer with public ridicule, not over the dollars, but over the fact that the contract stipulated that if his YouTube channel were demonetized, his pay would be docked.

The dispute was covered in detail by Sam Seder and the team at The Majority Report.

What networks might pick up Carlson?

Carlson has not made any public statements regarding his departure from Fox, and without a chance to say farewell to his viewers, many fans want to hear from him. Tucker is a mainstay of corporate news media and has been since the early 2000s, but his next gig may come from a much smaller outlet like The Blaze or NewsMax. The former Fox host could also try to go off on his own by starting a YouTube channel to stream his own show, and since he has such a loyal following, it could work out for him.
