Chuck Todd is leaving Meet the Press after eight years as host. NBC has already announced that Todd will be replaced by Kristen Welker starting in September. “It’s been an amazing nearly decade-long run,” said Todd when announcing his departure, adding that he was “proud” of what he and his team had accomplished.

“I’d rather go a little too early than a bit too late.”

Todd’s tenure as host will be remembered as an era where ‘Meet the Press’ was turned into a franchise, with spin-off shows and podcasts that kept those interested even more up to date. The host says he is aware that a good leader does not “overstay their welcome,” and for that reason, he is prepared to pass along the baton to a younger generation of journalists.

Fans of Todd, who have been dubbed ‘Chuckolytes,’ can expect to continue seeing him as he made clear that some of his future projects will be completed at NBC. Some of these projects include docuseries and docudrama, which are a medium Todd has become more interested in throughout his time at ‘Meet the Press.’

“I let work consume me for thirty years.”

Todd has expressed that his decision to step away from certain professional projects is driven by his desire to spend more quality time with his family. He acknowledges that in the past, he allowed his career to dictate his life, but after witnessing the negative impact it had on the health of his colleagues and friends, he made a promise to his loved ones that he would prioritize their well-being over work commitments.
