Guinness World Records

A Great Dane from Iowa named Kevin recently received the title of world’s tallest dog. Kevin cuts an imposing figure, having the same height as a three-year-old child when he is on all fours, and standing eight inches taller than the average human male when he stands on his hind legs.

Despite his impressive size, the Great Dane is afraid of an ordinary home gadget. According to one of his owners, Tracy Wolfe, Kevin does not allow the vacuum cleaner to come within six feet of him. Wolfe says her pet jumps and runs away from the appliance to get away from it.

The three-year-old dog measures 3 feet 2 inches from his paws to the ridge between his shoulder blades and in March, he was declared the world’s tallest living male dog. He now holds the world record, which had been left vacant after the death of another Great Dane named Zeus.

The tallest dog in the world doesn’t act his size

Sharing his West Des Moines home with the Wolfe family, including their two children and several other animals, Kevin acts as if he is unaware of his size. He tries to get into small beds, sits on his owners’ laps, and does everything a smaller dog would do. In addition to his fear of the vacuum cleaner, Kevin also gets easily scared by other objects, such as the tape measure they used to officially measure him.

Because of his size, he usually eats up to 10 cups of food a day. Aside from spending much of his time napping, he also takes any opportunity to steal extra food from the kitchen counters, which he can access easily due to his size.

The Wolfes are grateful to have brought Kevin into their home, especially after the loss of their previous Great Dane, Cora. “Kevin is the epitome of a gentle giant,” Wolfe said. “He was perfect for us.”
