The US federal government recognizes 11 official holidays that are celebrated between New Year’s Day and Christmas Day. Easter Sunday, however, is not one of them.
While federal holidays generally fall on a weekday, unlike government agencies, private employers don’t necessarily close their doors to customers. Businesses are free to do the same with religious holidays.
Many major grocery stores and pharmacies will be open on Easter Sunday, which is today, 31 March 2024. However, not all are - and those that opt not to shut may have be operating reduced opening hours.
Which stores will be closed today, Easter Sunday 2024?
Some stores typically close their doors for specific holidays every year. This is the case for Costco, which will be closed on Easter Sunday. It’s one of seven days that the chain’s warehouses tend to close in the US, alongside New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Likewise, you won’t find a Publix open during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter any given year. These are the retailers that will be closed today:
