Over the past decade, Ben Potter, aka Comicstorian, built an online following of more than 3 million with his dramatic readings of comic books. His original audios brought to life the DC and Marvel universes through almost 4,000 videos posted on his YouTube channel for his dedicated fanbase.

His wife Nathalie announced via a statement on X, formerly Twitter, that her husband, “passed away in an unfortunate accident” on 8 June. He was 40 years old.

“To many of you, he was Comicstorian, voicing stories from across multiple different mediums,” she wrote. “To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most supportive individuals anyone could ask for.”

Ben’s wife did not share the details of the “unfortunate accident” that claimed her husband’s life but expressed how “loving and genuine” he was to those close to him “or even just a stranger” by making time and listening.

He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were okay,” she continued. “He was our rock and he’d reassure his loved ones whenever they needed it.”

Nathalie also conveyed Ben’s compassion for what he did. “Ben spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies. It was through his love of exciting stories and well written characters that got him started on YouTube,” she explained.

She said of his Comicstorian channel, which Nathalie called “one of his greatest accomplishments,” that she knows “he wouldn’t want it to end like this.” She vowed “to keep that going” along with the team in order to “honor him by continuing to tell great stories by great people, as well as to keep the memory of our very own superhero alive,” Nathalie wrote.

“We supported each other on everything we wanted to do and I’m not about to stop now.” However, for the time being, she said she along with everyone else “need our time to mourn.” She asked that everyone respect her privacy “as well as everyone else’s” while she finds comfort in friends and family as she grieves.

“Right now my priority is preserving everything he’s built and I don’t have any plans beyond that,” she added.
